Mallorca can be considered the paradise for retired people of north Europe. It is not difficult to meet English and German retired people spending the long winter periods on the island, and most of them own a house or an apartment.
Climate in Palma is mild most of the year, with the exception of the period going from November to March. But each season offers some advantages to visitors.
At the end of January daylight gets longer, and temperature starts rising up to 22 degrees, although the average temperatures remain around 14 degrees.
Summer is undoubtedly the hottest period, with nice weather, but in August the island is invaded by throngs of young European tourists, so avoid a holiday in this period if you are in search for relax. For young people, Palma represents a real Mecca in August.Â
Winter and autumn are less chaotic, and as beautiful as the other seasons.
In October all shops and tourist services operate regularly, and it is always possible to enjoy some less crowded beaches with a still attracting sea (with the exception of some very rare rainy days).  In this period hotels offer very affordable tariffs, for instance a double room will cost about 50€, including breakfast.Â
