North beaches

The northern territory of the island is harder to reach from the capital, due to the tortuous streets which climb up the mountains of the inland.
Protected by the Sierra de Tramunta, the north coast might be wilder, but certainly as fascinating as the south and east shore. For a long time this part of Mallorca has suffered a certain isolation respect to the city capital, because its villages on the coast could be reached easier by land than by sea, so paradoxically, they had more contacts with France than with the city capital.
Nevertheless, the northern coasts deserve a visit. You can go by car or railway, using an old train which offers a tourist itinerary until Sòller.
Arriving from Palma de Mallorca, a must is certainly the village of Vallemossa, which is famous for being the place where Chopin and Sad met, and the home place to Santa Catalina Tomas, the saint celebrated in the ceramic tiles present on the walls of many houses and buildings.
